Good to know
Serenity House is a peaceful mountain cabin located at the end of a 3.5-mile dirt road, offering privacy, quiet, and beautiful natural surroundings on five scenic acres with a creek. First Floor (Basement Level) The first floor includes a family room with TV and DVD player, a sofa bed, a bedroom with a queen bed, and a bathroom with a shower. Main Floor The main floor is accessed by a flight of stairs and features a comfortable living room, a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, a dining area for meals or games, a record player, and access to the outdoor deck. This level also includes a bedroom with a queen bed and a partially updated full bathroom. Third Floor The large primary suite is located on the third floor and includes a king bed and a spacious bathroom. This bedroom was added later than the original cabin, and heating ducts do not extend fully to this space. A space heater is provided if needed, and opening the interior window to the living area helps promote heat flow. We aim to be as upfront and thorough as possible so guests know exactly what to expect. GOOD TO KNOW (Please Read Before Booking) • No cell signal at the cabin (Wi-Fi calling works) • Starlink satellite internet, generally reliable with occasional variability • Rustic mountain property with wildlife, insects, uneven terrain, and a creek • Sensitive septic system (toilet paper only) • 3.5-mile dirt road to access the property • Maximum occupancy of 8 guests; no parties, events, or photo/video shoots • If these are a good fit for your group, Serenity House is likely a great match. MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE PROPERTY Connectivity There is no cell service at the cabin. We provide a landline for local calls only. Many carriers support Wi-Fi calling, allowing calls and texts over the internet. Internet service is provided via Starlink satellite and is generally reliable for everyday use. As with all satellite internet, speeds may vary at times. We also provide a selection of DVDs for offline entertainment. Nature & Wildlife One of the cabin’s best features is its natural setting. The 5-acre lot is intentionally kept wild, which is part of its beauty. Being surrounded by thousands of acres of public land means you may encounter bugs, lizards, and wildlife. We’ve seen fox, deer, bear, skunk, and other animals in the area. While uncommon, rattlesnakes have been sighted on the property—please give them space if encountered. Despite thorough cleaning between stays, it’s possible that small insects or wildlife may occasionally find their way indoors. If bugs, spiders, lizards, or mice are a serious concern, this may not be the right property for you. Please do not leave food out. Septic System The cabin uses a sensitive septic system. Please flush only toilet paper (no wipes or other items), scrape food into the trash before rinsing dishes, and do not put food down the garbage disposal. If a plumber is required and non-flushable items are found, guests will be responsible for the cost. Supplies & Remoteness Please plan to bring groceries and supplies with you. There is a small convenience store about 15 minutes away, but the nearest large grocery store is approximately 40 minutes away in Woodland Park or Canon City. Creek & Terrain There is a path down to the creek, but it is not paved. It is a rustic dirt path with some rock steps and uneven terrain. No special athletic ability is required, but mobility limitations should be considered. Please watch for rocks and cacti. Property Boundaries The back of the property borders public land, with neighbors located hundreds of feet away on either side and mostly hidden by trees. Please do not cross fences onto neighboring property. If exploring public land, we recommend using a mapping app or consulting the BLM to ensure you remain on public land. Character of the Cabin While many updates have been made, parts of the cabin are older and not hotel-like. Serenity House is cozy, full of character, and best enjoyed by guests who appreciate slowing down and being immersed in nature. Heating & Cooling The cabin does not have air conditioning, as mountain temperatures rarely require it. Fans are provided. Heating is provided via propane, with space heaters available as supplemental heat when needed. Basement Note The first floor is a basement-level space and tends to be cooler, which many guests appreciate in warmer months. As with most mountain basements, it may have a slightly different scent than the upper floors. Grill Use A propane grill is provided as a courtesy. While we do our best to keep the propane tank filled, this cannot be guaranteed. Propane can be refilled at Evergreen Station approximately 15 minutes away. Please turn off the grill after use, never leave it unattended while lit, and clean it after use. Grill cleaning is not included in the cleaning fee. Sleeping Arrangements Sleeping accommodations include one king bed, two queen beds, a sofa bed, and two foldable mattresses best suited for children. Each bedroom is on a separate floor. Extra blankets are provided. Linens are not provided for the pack-n-play. Rental Agreement After booking, guests will receive access to our secure Hospitable guest portal, where the rental agreement can be reviewed and signed electronically prior to check-in. This is standard procedure for professionally managed vacation rentals and is required before access codes are activated.
